Pastor’s Desk

Anxiety seems too much like self-torture to be a sin.  We are often quick to excuse ourselves for the sin of worry.  Sin is often about short cuts to pleasure, but not always.  Worry doesn’t bring any pleasure. So why worry about the sin of worry?  Here’s why: Worry is rooted in our desire to control things; it is our natural inclination to be in charge.  Jesus warns His disciples not to fall prey to worry because it is a subtle way we put ourselves in place of God.  I am looking forward to this final, challenging installment in this series.

See you this weekend for: Dare to Be A Disciple series.  Read Luke 12 to prepare.

Shoes for AfghanistanOur son Zach just posted that when they pass through the villages just about all the kids have no shoes. They are up in the mountains in Afghanistan, it gets cold, and few if any houses are heated.  Zach is asking for people to send socks, shoes & gloves for kids up through 12 years old, even if they're used but in good shape. Probably coats & baby blankets would be good too. Anything you all could do will be appreciated.

Yes, Zach’s National Guard Unit lost the four soldiers 2 weeks ago.
