The Man Who Might Have Been: Samson

The Comeback Kid

Judges 16:23-31

The prayer of Samson in this chapter at the end of his life was simple: “O  God, remember me.” This prayer means “Lord, I belonged to you at the beginning,  but I wandered away. I made some stupid mistakes. I blew it, Lord. O God, I  deserve everything that has happened to me. Lord, will you just this one time  remember me?”  How far can you go before God finally washes his hands and says, “You’ve gone  too far for me?” I don’t know the answer to that question, because nobody’s ever gone far enough. There’s no pit so deep that the love of God is not deeper still. No matter how far you run away from God, you can never go so far that God can’t find you.  The hero of this story isn’t Samson. The hero is God. This passage is a lesson in the grace of God. How a man beaten and blinded, humiliated by his own repeated stupidity, reached the bottom, turned around, and discovered God was right there waiting for him. There’s nothing heroic about Samson. God is the hero. He was there all along. Over and over, this is a story of the grace of God!

Membership Classes — Join us on September 13 & 20 if you've been here at Crossroads for a while, consider this your church home, and would like to take the next step toward becoming a member.

Outdoor Baptism & Church-Wide Potluck — Save the date for September 27! We'll celebrate baptisms outdoors, followed by a potluck for the whole church family. Bring a dish to share and join us for this special day.

DivorceCare:  Begins meeting on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm on August 12 in the upstairs conference room.  Going through a divorce can be one of the loneliest seasons of life, but you don’t have to walk through it alone.  DivorceCare is a weekly support group where you’ll find caring people and honest conversation around the topics that matter most during this difficult time.  If you know someone who could use this, invite them to come with you.  It’s always easier to walk through the door when you’re not walking in alone.  Questions or want to register?  Contact John Cook at 219-308-7541. We’d love to have you.
